Omid Ghamami

Omid Ghamami, MBA, CPSCM is one of the most recognized global authorities in purchasing negotiation strategy.  Since 1995, he has performed consulting, training, and public speaking for thousands of procurement executives and professionals in 22+ countries and 5 continents on topics related to the entire spectrum of purchasing, supply chain management, purchasing contract law, negotiations, total cost analysis, and supplier management.  He specializes in transforming private sector purchasing organizations from undervalued overhead functions into Value Added Centers of Profit and enabling public sector (i.e., government) procurement organizations to rearchitect their procurement and negotiations processes and strategies for improved efficiency, performance results and total cost savings, while enabling strategies to truly leverage and benefit from their aggregate purchasing volume for dramatically improved results.   

Ghamami has 18 years’ experience with Intel Corp as a purchasing executive, having separately lead Central Region Indirect Purchasing, Global Corporate Motherboard Manufacturing Equipment Procurement, and Intel's Global Purchasing Operations Organization with a $16B scope.  He was also responsible for the negotiation planning, execution, & training processes for the Global Procurement Organization and was named “THE Godfather of Negotiation Planning” by the executive staff.    His accomplishments at Intel Corp include chairing a Global Negotiation Strategy Steering Committee for the $16B procurement organization, successfully driving the first ever implementation of ePurchasing (generating $25M savings in first year), leading the indirect purchasing organization to best in class average of 33.2% cost savings, developing and deploying a Global Purchasing Risk and Controls program, driving development and implementation of first ever Global Corporate Contract Database for the company, negotiating 18% savings for sole sourced manufacturing capital equipment for 42 new assembly lines worldwide, leading Intel’s Global Corporate Surplus Sales program of $55M/annually, managing Intel’s Small Business purchasing program and passing all government audits without findings, driving strategy to reduce Contract Price Variance by 90% ($19M annually) across all direct material contracts, leading strategy for $100M outsourcing effort to offshore suppliers, and leading make vs buy analysis and subsequent $170M negotiation for a fleet of 45 passenger corporate jets.  He was also the lead negotiations/cost analysis/contract law trainer for the global procurement organization, and after he left this role, Intel hired a large consulting firm to assume this function. 

As a sought after private and public sector procurement/negotiations consultant, capability builder, and speaker, some of Omid’s more notable engagements include leading active procurement and negotiation capability building contracts with the National Institute for Government Procurement (NIGP) and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) – the largest public and private sector professional purchasing/procurement associations in the world respectively, having twice been hired to train all 50 Chief Purchasing Officers of the United States on how to achieve improved negotiation results against their $3.2 Trillion budget, pioneering the 100% online CPSCM™ (Certified Purchasing & Supply Chain Manager) certification program with a negotiated partnership with the University of Houston for issuance of CPSCM™ completion certificates, twice having presented by request to Harvard University’s Supply Chain Management Master’s Program, having lead public and in-house seminars for private and public sector entities all over the world, having been interviewed by request by Fortune Magazine with a Euro edition article subsequently published which was based exclusively on his insight, and delivering speeches at negotiation, purchasing, and executive conferences all over the world.

Ghamami has published 14 articles in prestigious global procurement/negotiation journals and has authored 2 books that have been best sellers in the procurement profession.  Ghamami is also founder, chief architect, and Adjunct Professor of Purchasing for the only purchasing curriculum out of 113 colleges in the CA Community College System.  Ghamami holds a BS in Business Administration from California State University and an MBA from the University of California, where he was Class President.
